WSPN brings stablecoin settlement to ecommerce checkout
WSPN is applying crypto’s efficiency directly to merchant payments. The launch of its Checkout product provides a standardized path for e-commerce platforms to integrate and settle with major stablecoins.
Summary
- WSPN launched Checkout, enabling ecommerce platforms to accept and settle major stablecoins in real time.
- The product targets cross-border payment delays and high fees by embedding stablecoin rails into merchant infrastructure.
- The move is part of WSPN’s broader push to make stablecoins standard payment infrastructure as adoption reaches new global highs.
According to a press release dated Oct. 24, the Worldwide Stablecoin Payment Network (WSPN) has officially launched WSPN Checkout, a new system designed to embed stablecoin technology directly into the backend of e-commerce payment processing.
The product allows online merchants to accept payments in mainstream stablecoins like WUSD, USDT, and USDC across major blockchains, such as Ethereum and Solana, while partnering with licensed payment providers to offer flexible settlement options.
WSPN founder and CEO Raymond Yuan stated the move is part of a broader strategy to transition stablecoins from a niche innovation into standardized financial infrastructure.
“WSPN Checkout represents our commitment to productizing stablecoins for standardized scenarios,” Yuan said. “Merchants gain instant settlement and flexibility, all within a compliant framework designed for scale. This is how stablecoins transition from innovation to infrastructure.”
How WSPN’s Checkout tackles payment frictions
By utilizing stablecoin rails, WSPN Checkout directly confronts the standard 3 to 7 business day settlement wait and transaction fees that can erode merchant margins by a similar percentage. This shift to real-time settlement and lower costs repositions stablecoins from a speculative asset often used in trading to a practical tool for business treasury management.
WSPN’s vision, however, extends far beyond the online shopping cart. The company plans to embed this same stablecoin technology in a wider array of global financial products, including supply chain financing, treasury management, and international payroll.
In that light, Checkout becomes the first visible tier of a broader strategy to standardize stablecoins as infrastructural tender. WSPN, which raised US$30 million in an August 2024 seed round led by Foresight Venture and Folius Ventures with participation from Generative Ventures and Yunqi Partners, is advancing what it calls “Stablecoin 2.0”.
Notably, the initiative is also backed by Hash Global, RedPoint China, and 30 crypto exchanges. Adding significant credibility to this endeavor is the appointment of John Partridge, the former President of Visa Inc., to WSPN’s board of directors.
WSPN’s latest move arrives as the entire stablecoin market hits a historic inflection point. The sector’s growth is now being measured against the world’s largest financial networks. A recent Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) report revealed that stablecoins have processed a staggering $46 trillion in annual transaction volume, a figure that comfortably outpaces the throughput of legacy fintech giant PayPal and even surpasses that of Visa.
This meteoric rise is further underscored by Tether’s recent announcement that its USDT stablecoin now facilitates transactions for over half a billion users worldwide.
