Unity embraces web3 gaming with blockchain-based SDKs
Unity is diving into the world of web3 gaming by launching a “decentralization” category in its online store and adding support for 13 blockchain-based software developer kits (SDKs) to connect game developers with web3 gaming.
Unity, a leading game developer platform, is venturing into the exciting world of web3 gaming by launching a “decentralization” category in its online store, according to a recent press release. Unity is adding support for 13 blockchain-based software developer kits (SDKs), including Dapper Labs’ Flow blockchain, Algorand, Aptos, Immutable X, MetaMask, Solana, and others.
The goal of Unity’s new toolkit is to offer game developers the resources to connect with web3 gaming, a rapidly growing crypto sector. With the new decentralization storefront in the Unity Asset Store, game developers can integrate blockchain technologies such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse into their games, enhancing gameplay experiences.
Web3 game developers have been eagerly anticipating Unity’s foray into the industry, having already optimized their products for the gaming engine.
In March 2022, Joyride, raised $14 million before it launched, supporting game development on Unity. In October of the same year, blockchain infrastructure firm ChainSafe raised nearly $19 million, focusing on helping developers connect their games to Unity.
The gaming industry is experiencing rapid growth, and the web3 gaming sector is attracting investments. Unity’s entry into the Web3 gaming industry with its own tools is expected to bring web3 values to the gaming industry.
It’s a whole new era for game developers, and Unity’s decentralized storefront and blockchain-based SDKs will offer them a competitive advantage.
