Largest DEX Uniswap Launches Beta Wallet App for Android on Google Play Store

The freshly introduced Uniswap Android beta app offers a feature that enables users to choose coins from various blockchains without the need to manually switch networks.

On Thursday, October 12, decentralized crypto exchange Uniswap unveiled a closed beta Android version of its wallet app. This is the first time that Uniswap is bringing an application interface for users. So far, it was only available on the PC and iOS mobile devices.

Uniswap stands as the leading decentralized cryptocurrency exchange globally in terms of cumulative trading volume, having facilitated over $1.7 trillion in trades since its establishment, as reported by DefiLlama.

While the majority of its trading activities occurred through a web-based platform, the Uniswap team introduced an iOS mobile application on April 13. Prior to this release, the team had voiced concerns about delays from Apple in making the app available on the App Store. Even after receiving approval for the App Store, Uniswap had yet to launch a dedicated Android app.

As of the announcement on October 12, the freshly introduced Android beta app offers a feature that enables users to choose coins from various blockchains without the need to manually switch networks. This functionality automatically detects the network associated with a particular coin and seamlessly transitions to that network, eliminating the need for user intervention. Currently, it is compatible with Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and BNB Chain, with plans for further blockchain compatibility in the future.

Here’s How the Uniswap Wallet Will Work

The Uniswap wallet has a feature that directs Ethereum transactions through a private pool, designed to reduce vulnerability to front-running and sandwich attacks. However, users have the flexibility to disable this feature if they choose to do so. Additionally, it has the capability to automatically identify most coins with built-in transfer fees, presenting these fees within the user interface for transparency.

The announcement provided a link to sign up for an email waitlist. Uniswap will use this detail for the gradual distribution of the app to early adopters. Furthermore, the team intends to release the app’s open-source code in the upcoming weeks, as part of the ongoing security audit conducted in collaboration with Trail of Bits.

It’s worth noting that Uniswap is not the sole decentralized exchange offering a mobile wallet. In 2021, 1inch introduced a mobile wallet for iOS, and subsequently released an Android version in October of the same year.
