Elizabeth Warren challenged by pro-crypto lawyer John Deaton in Senate race
John Deaton, a pro-crypto lawyer and founder of CryptoLaw US, has launched his campaign, challenging incumbent Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Announcing his bid as a Republican, Deaton’s campaign and Facebook page went live over the weekend, where he criticized Warren for being ineffective for Massachusetts.
Deaton, known for his support of Ripple and involvement in significant legal battles within the crypto industry, has been vocal about his disagreements with Warren and SEC Chair Gary Gensler‘s approach to cryptocurrency regulation.
In 2021, he sought to intervene in the SEC’s lawsuit against Ripple on behalf of XRP holders, arguing their interests were not adequately represented.
“I’m not running on crypto,” Deaton told the Boston Globe, despite his significant involvement in the crypto sector. His decision to enter the political arena follows previous public considerations of challenging Warren, emphasizing a desire to confront her policies directly.
Senator Warren, a noted critic of the cryptocurrency industry, has advocated for stricter regulatory measures, including anti-money laundering legislation concerning digital assets. Her stance has sparked debate within the crypto community, with some arguing that her policies could hinder innovation.
