Character.AI announces a strategic agreement with Google and key leadership changes to accelerate the development of personalized AI products.

Character.AI has announced a significant partnership with Google, marking a new phase in the company’s growth and development of personalized artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This strategic agreement includes a non-exclusive license for Character.AI’s current large language model (LLM) technology, which will provide increased funding and resources for the company to continue its expansion and innovation efforts.

Strategic Partnership with Google

According to the Character.AI Blog, the collaboration with Google will enable Character.AI to make greater use of third-party LLMs alongside their own proprietary models. This approach aims to enhance the company’s post-training capabilities and accelerate the development of new product experiences for their growing user base. The agreement is expected to bolster Character.AI’s mission to deliver personalized superintelligence to users worldwide.

Leadership Changes

As part of the agreement, Noam and Daniel, the founders of Character.AI, along with certain members of the research team, will join Google. Despite these departures, most of Character.AI’s team will remain to continue building the company’s products and serving its expanding user base. Dominic Perella, previously a longtime executive at Snap Inc., has been appointed as the interim CEO. Perella has been a core member of Character.AI’s leadership team since mid-2023 and will guide the company through this transition.

Focus on Innovation and Growth

Character.AI was founded in 2022 with the goal of bringing personalized superintelligence to users around the world. Over the past two years, the company has made significant strides, developing increasingly sophisticated models and launching new features that have integrated into the daily lives of millions of users. The evolving landscape of AI, with many more pre-trained models now available, has prompted Character.AI to leverage external LLMs to enhance their offerings further.

With the new funding and resources from the Google agreement, Character.AI plans to continue investing in post-training capabilities and developing innovative AI products. The company remains committed to its mission of providing personalized AI experiences and is optimistic about the future.

Character.AI expressed gratitude to its founders and team members for their contributions and looks forward to building on their foundational work in this new phase of growth.
